Riding Out the Recession

Despite all the worry about a looming recession, there’s still a lot of benefit to being in central Oklahoma.  You probably remember that Forbes.com rated us the most recession-proof city a while back.  Well, now that the economy has slid a little further, they’ve published a new list and apparently they still love us.  OKC is ranked #2 best city to ride out the recession at Forbes.com, where they’re digging our low unemployment, stable housing, and strong energy sector.  You can also see the list in slideshow form.

  1. Ryan,

Good thoughts on Oklahoma. I have friend in Tulsa, and she agrees. If we just keep talking about the positives, we can get this market turned around.
    Keep up the positive posts.

Nice post, Ryan – a little comfort in the economic storm. How are housing prices holding up? I've seen a little bit of a slowdown in my neighborhood, but the homes are still selling.

  3. Larry, glad you stopped by. Things aren't perfect, but I always try to push the positive a little more, simply because there's so much negativity being showered on us all right now. People still need to see that the sky is not falling!

Steve, right now comfort in the storm is a good thing. It's easy to buy into the doom & gloom. So far pricing is staying level, although overall averages did drop for the first time in September. I'll be posting those statistics over the next couple of days. Like you said, homes are still selling, they're just taking a little longer than last year. I'll post up a neighborhood summary for you soon as well, hopefully to help calm some nerves. Great to hear from you.

Our home business was really affected by the Economic recession, we have to cut jobs just to cover up our losses. fortunately, we have already recovered. "
