Russian pianists take the stage April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
EDMOND, Okla. (April 11, 2012) – Two of the foremost Russian pianists of our day will combine forces for a performance at Armstrong Auditorium on Sunday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Valery Kuleshov made his concert debut at age nine in the Moscow Conservatory. He has since toured the world and earned multiple awards for his performances. Kuleshov now serves as an artist-in-residence at the University of Central Oklahoma School of Music.
Joining him is Maxim Mogilevsky. Described by the New York Times as “pure ravishment,” Mogilevsky has performed extensively with the greatest conductors and orchestras, becoming a favorite of musicians and audiences worldwide.
“Both pianists are known for their distinctive style,” Shane Granger, Armstrong’s house manager stated. “Their ability to refresh any piece is certain to delight our audience as the duo takes their places at Armstrong Auditorium’s two Hamburg Steinway pianos.”
Kuleshov and Mogilevsky will present a program of duets by great Russian composers including Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” Prokofiev’s Cinderella Suite, Rachmaninoff’s Suite No. 2, Opus 17 for Two Pianos, and Liszt’s “Reminiscences of Don Giovanni.”
The duo’s performance is the finale of Armstrong Auditorium’s 2011-2012 Russian Masters series. The Herbert W. Armstrong College Choral Union will complete the season on May 3.
Armstrong Auditorium provides a flexible ticket pricing system. Tickets to see the Kuleshov-Mogilevsky Piano Duo start at $20 for balcony seating and $35 for orchestra seating.
Armstrong Auditorium is also currently host to the world premiere of nearly a dozen archaeological artifacts discovered in Jerusalem in the exhibit, “Seals of Jeremiah’s Captors Discovered.” The interactive exhibit includes figurines, large vessels and royal seal impressions dating to biblical times, which will be on display in the lobby during the performance.
